KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police are investigating a shooting that left one woman with critical injuries early Sunday morning.

KCPD said officers responded to a report of a shooting near 45th Street and Elmwood Avenue at approximately 2 a.m. When police arrived, there was a large crowd gathered for what had been a house party, which sources told FOX 4 was an after prom party.

Police Chief Darryl Forte tweeted that residents in the area heard sounds of “over 30 shots fired,” and that “numerous shell casings” were found at the scene.

A 19-year-old woman was found shot and was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The crime scene included multiple cars along a stretch of the street struck by bullets.

No arrests have been made at this time. Police are asking anyone with information to call the TIPS hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
