LENEXA, Kan. -- Listen up, Johnson County drivers, because your commute is about to get a little bit easier.
City leaders are celebrating a major milestone in the Gateway Project.
There is a pretty good chance since this project began that the construction in Johnson County has caused more than a few headaches for drivers.
While the project won't be completed for some time, there is some good news this week.
KDOT is ready to open a new flyover ramp, from eastbound Interstate 35 to northbound Interstate 435. The ramp will be open around 5 a.m. Wednesday, just in time for the morning rush.
But to make that opening happen, there are a few overnight closures drivers should know about.
On Tuesday, two ramps are closing: eastbound and westbound I-435 ramps to northbound I-35 are closing at 10 p.m.
Crews said they need time to get the ramps closed so they can get the new flyover ramp ready to open.
Detour signs will be posted, which will take drivers down to 119th Street and then loop back around.
After this week, the main focus will shift to the I-35 and 95th Street interchange, and making sure that project will wrap up on time.
