KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A house sustained major damage after an SUV plowed right through a front window on Sunday evening.
Police responded to the scene at 27th Street and Drury Avenue where the vehicle missed two small children inside the home by mere feet.
Authorities said a woman was driving her SUV south on Drury when the brakes went out around 5 p.m. on Sunday. She told police that she headed for the home's steep driveway, hoping that the incline would stop her vehicle.
Unfortunately, the SUV kept going and slammed into the house.
Two other people were inside the vehicle. Four people, including two children were inside the home when the crash occurred.
Police said there were only minor injuries, and everyone was treated at the scene. They said it was nothing short of a miracle that no one was seriously hurt.
"Everybody was okay. Very minor injuries, to the point where EMS was able to respond to the scene and actually just treat and release right here. So nobody has to go to the hospital. No injuries to the driver or passengers too, so overall that's a really good day that everyone's able to walk away from this," Sgt. Joe Merino with KCPD said.
Crews were temporarily unable to remove the car until the gas company shut off gas to the home.
The family will be staying with relatives until the house can be secured.
