Police investigating shooting death in Leavenworth

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. — Leavenworth police are conducting a homicide investigation on Sunday after one person was found dead with gunshot wounds.

Officers were called to the area of 6th Street and Cherokee Street around 6:30 a.m. Sunday. Police discovered one victim deceased in a small parking lot with gunshot wounds. Investigators are focusing their efforts on an overnight call in the 600 block of Cherokee of a disturbance with shots fired.

Police identified the victim later on Sunday as 22-year-old Jonta J. Adams, of Leavenworth.

No arrests have been made at this time. Police are asking anyone with information to call the Leavenworth clue line at (913) 682-CLUE.
