KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- An attempted armed robbery prompted a bridge closure and landed the suspect in the hospital early Monday morning.

Around 4:30 a.m., police were dispatched to the Restaurant Depot  near 15000 West 12th Street upon reports of an armed robbery.  According to police, a security guard at Restaurant Depot fired shots at two suspects. One of the suspects took off and attempted to run up the 12th Street Bridge, where police later found them suffering from gunshot wounds. That suspect was taken to the hospital and is listed in critical condition. Police are still looking for the other suspect.

No one in the store was injured.

The 12th Street Bridge was closed for nearly three hours Monday morning while officers conducted their investigation.

Police say in January two men with handguns walked into this same Restaurant Depot and forced employees to lie down on the floor. One of the robbers hit an employee with the gun. The employee was not seriously hurt. In April of 2015, a man was seriously injured after being shot during a robbery.
