Suspect in ‘reported shooting’ at a Walmart in Texas shot and killed, hostages safe

AMARILLO, Texas — A suspect who was allegedly armed inside a Walmart in Amarillo, Texas, has been shot by Amarillo authorities, according to Sonja Gross, a spokeswoman for the city of Amarillo.

The Amarillo Police Department released a statement just before noon Tuesday saying they were at the store amid reports of an armed person inside who may have hostages. Police are urging residents to avoid the area.

As 12:43 p.m., Amarillo police tweeted that the suspect has been shot and is apparently dead. The hostages inside were safe, according to the tweet.

Police have not said what prompted the incident.
