KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A man allegedly shot his sister in the leg Friday morning after she refused to get off of her phone, police say.

Police say they started getting calls around 3:15 a.m., from a woman inside a home at 38th and Agnes. The woman told police that she got into an argument with her 64-year-old brother. The woman says she got on her phone and he told her to get off the phone and when she refused, her brother allegedly shot her in the leg.

Police were dispatched to the home and an Operation 100 was called. After nearly two hours the man surrendered peacefully. Family told police the suspect was disabled and walked with a cane, so when he did surrender he would only be able to raise one arm.

According to police, the suspect had no prior issues with authorities and no alcohol or drugs were involved in the incident, but he was armed with a gun.

The woman was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
