Lee’s Summit firefighters quickly knock down flames on roof of Summit Technology

LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. -- The Lee's Summit Fire Department quickly knocked down flames to prevent a fire from spreading at the Summit Technology Campus  in the 800 block of NW Chipman Road early Tuesday morning.

Security and a bystander called 911 to report a fire on the roof around 5:15 a.m. The fire was quickly upgraded to a two-alarm fire.

The building was evacuated by the time firefighters arrived. The fire was under control and out by 5:34 a.m., and people were allowed to return by 6:30 a.m.

Firefighters say the fire involved a portion of a large chilling unit for the air conditioning system.

There are no reports of injuries and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The 480,000 square foot building housed tenant such as University of Central Missouri and St. Luke's.
