Man charged with murder for allegedly strangling 18-year-old in Kansas City, Kan.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The Wyandotte County District Attorney charged a 29-year-old man with murder on Thursday. Carlos Antonio Gallegos is accused of strangling Monica J. Chavira, 18, of Mission, Kan. The victim was found dead in a motel room on Southwest Boulevard on Monday.

Gallegos was arrested in Missouri, jail records say he’s in Kansas City police’s custody, and a news release from the district attorney’s office says that Gallegos is awaiting extradition.

A Wyandotte County judge set his bond at $1 million.
