KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Police in Kansas City, Kan., are investigating a crash that sent a motorcycle driver to the hospital early Friday morning.

Police say around 2:16 a.m., at 48th and State Avenue a motorcycle crashed into the side of a vehicle.

Amber Thomas with KCK police says the preliminary investigation shows the motorcycle was traveling eastbound on State Avenue while the white car was trying to make a left turn into a hotel parking lot. Thomas says the motorcycle then hit the side of the car.

"Actually, our officers were down here and heard the crash since our substation is right to the east of here," Thomas said.

The victim is described as a male in his early 20s. Police say he underwent surgery and is in unstable critical condition.

Thomas tells FOX 4 that the Kansas Highway Patrol was assisting with the investigation because KCK's motorcycle units and honor guard went to Dallas for the funerals of the fallen officers.
