KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- On Monday afternoon several passengers on a Kansas City Area Transportation bus were unexpectedly rushed to hospitals. It`s after the bus they were riding collided with a car near 18th and Vine.
Jazz District workers say it was business as usual on Monday, until they heard that loud crash between a car and a bus.
“We didn't hear any squealing or anything. We just heard the boom, so it was kind of scary at first. It startled everybody in the office,” said Lance Conley.
Conley works at a nearby public relations and communications firm. Right after the afternoon wreck between a Crown Victoria and KCATA bus, Conley ran outside after seeing the front end of the car smashed and smoke coming from the engine.
Conley says the bleeding, disoriented driver --- who`s in his 20`s --- had a serious gash on his forehead and the man also hurt his right leg.
A KCATA spokesperson says the bus was heading east on 18th Street and slowed down for a speed bump.
Six of the 12 people on the bus went to hospitals.
Conley is just glad he was able to help that injured driver out of his banged-up car.
“He was trying to walk, but he was complaining of his ankle or his leg was hurting pretty bad. It could`ve been a lot worse, a lot worse. If you could`ve seen the impact. It was pretty bad,” Conley described.
A spokesperson for the bus company said she didn’t know the extent of the passengers` injuries.
