KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Police are investigating a fatal accident in Kansas City, Kan. on Monday.Police Chief Terry Zeigler tweeted that officers were working an accident at 89th Street and Parallel Parkway, saying the "striking driver fled on foot and was caught a few blocks away."
Zeigler later confirmed that the accident was indeed fatal. On Tuesday, police confirmed the victim is Sotera Sebastian, 74.
The two-car accident reportedly happened just outside the Providence Medical Center, involving one vehicle slamming into the back of another.
Police say Sebastian was sitting in the back seat and wearing a seatbelt, according to police. Two others in that car also sustained injuries.
Police said the suspect in the case was speeding at the time of the accident, although there could also have been other factors at work. That driver left his vehicle and fled the scene on foot, even though he was injured.
Police were able to locate the suspect after a neighbor reported someone suspicious in the area.
That suspect, described only as a male in his 20s, was taken to a hospital.
