KINGSVILLE, Mo. — A mother and child died Monday morning in a two-vehicle crash at US-50 and Route Z in Johnson County, Mo. That is just west of the familiar landmark, Powell Gardens.
Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt., Collin Stosberg said the crash between the passenger car and an SUV happened about 7:30 a.m. The passenger car was traveling north, crossing over 50-Highway, while the SUV was traveling westbound on US-50.
After the impact, both cars traveled off the north side of the roadway. Both people in the passenger car were pronounced dead at the scene. According to authorities , the victims are Alicia McGinnis, 47, and her 8-year-old daughter, Kacee McGinnis. They are from Blairstown, Mo., about an hour and 15 minutes southeast of Kansas City, and approximately 40 minutes south of the crash site.
According to the crash report, Alicia McGinnis was not wearing a safety belt, but her daughter was. Two 20-year-old women from Kansas City, Mo., were in a 2007 Jeep, heading westbound on 50 Highway. On March 13, 2016, Shirley Tran, 14, was killed in a crash at the intersection of M0-131 and 50-Highway. She was riding with her 20-year-old sister and another 20-year-old friend when a 32-year-old woman failed to yield and pulled out in front of them. The intersection in Monday’s crash is about 4 miles west of the intersection where Tran was killed in March.
