LEETON, Mo. -- The pilot of a 1947 Republic RC-3 airplane walked away with minor injuries following a crash on Tuesday afternoon.

The Missouri Highway Patrol says the small plane crashed in south of SE 1300 Road in Henry County, which is about 75 miles southeast of Kansas City.

Pilot Cecil J. Bumgarner is an 87-year-old man from Warrensburg, and celebrated his birthday on Monday. He walked to a nearby house to call for help after the crash, and was taken to a hospital for moderate injuries.

The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the cause of the crash.
