Police investigating after body found along I-49 in Cass County

CASS COUNTY, Mo. -- The Cass County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation after a body was found along Interstate 49 and Peculiar Drive, about 2 miles north of Harrisonville.

The body was discovered in a ditch by bicyclists between the southbound lanes of I-49 and Peculiar Drive around 11:30 a.m. Sunday, police said.

One lane of southbound I-49 was closed during the investigation; it has since been re-opened.

Police described the victim as a white female in her early 20s, but said they do not believe she is related to any ongoing investigations in the metro.

Investigators called it a "suspicious death" but did not give details as to a possible cause of death.

On Monday morning the Metro Squad was activated to assist in the investigation. The Metro Squad brings investigative resources from numerous metro law enforcement agencies.
