Police identify man who died following crash at I-435 and 23rd Street

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person is dead following  a crash along I-435 at 23rd Street Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened sometime around noon.

Investigators determined that a gray Toyota was traveling northbound in the construction zone and veered left into the center median. The Toyota struck the center cable barrier and continued northbound between the bridges where it vaulted onto East 23rd Street and struck a westbound Kenworth dump truck.

The driver of the Toyota, 65-year-old James Barringer, was transported to an area hospital, but died shortly after his arrival. The driver of the dump truck was also transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.
