51-year-old Lawrence woman dies in crash along U.S. 24 Highway

LEAVENWORTH COUNTY, Kan. -- A deadly crash closed both east and westbound lanes of U.S. 24 at 243rd Street on Monday night. The Kansas Department of Transportation says the crash happened at about 6:45 p.m., and the highway reopened to all traffic just before 11 p.m.

The head-on crash between two vehicles killed an adult and sent another adult and two childrenĀ to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the SUV, 51-year-old Kelly Fowler of Lawrence, died.

A 16-year-old and one-year-old were in the SUV, but they survived.

The driver of the pickup was taken to the hospital for injuries but also survived.

The online crash report says everyone involved was wearing a seat belt.
