KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A pedestrian is being treated for life-threatening injuries after police say a vehicle hit them Monday morning near 63rd and Brookside Plaza.

Police say the incident took place around 7:23 a.m.

Police say a woman was drivingĀ east on 63rd Street just past Brookside Boulevard when a 70-year-old man was crossing the street in the crosswalk. According to police, the sun was rising at the same times and its rays were so bright the driver didn't see the man until it was too late.

The woman hit the man, and the man hit the windshield and rolled off.

Police say the man was talking and coherent on the way to the hospital, but his injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

The female driver was cooperating with authorities.
