KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Police are investigating after shots were fired Tuesday night near an apartment complex where a man was shot and killed the day before. It happened shortly before 8 p.m. at the Royal Ridge Apartments near 73rd and State.

Multiple neighbors on the scene said the incident happened in the same area where Monday's homicide happened. Police on scene told FOX 4 that after the shots rang out many of the people who were inside the apartment complex cleared out and left. Neighbors told FOX 4 they were fearful after the two incidents.

Police were called to the same apartment complex Monday afternoon and found a man who had been shot and killed in a parking lot. Family said 25-year-old Markie Murray leaves behind a 2-year-old son and a long-time girlfriend who he planned to marry.

Family had planned to gather at the Royal Ridge Apartments for a candlelight vigil Tuesday night but the shots were fired shortly before that vigil was supposed to take place.
