BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. — A car theft turned into a car chase and then a manhunt Thursday afternoon. It began at about noon when a man stole a car in Lafayette County. The driver then took the stolen car into eastern Jackson County and when it crossed the county line deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office joined the Missouri Highway Patrol in the pursuit.

While trying to elude authorities, the suspect crashed into another driver in Blue Springs on 7-Highway near Vesper. The innocent driver was taken to the hospital but is expected to recover. After the crash, the suspect fled the scene on foot and is still at large, armed with a handgun. Investigators say they found cash and seven rifles in the stolen car the suspect abandoned after the crash.

The man was described by witnesses as Caucasian,  wearing a blue jacket and light colored shorts or pants.
