KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A local woman who opened a senior citizens recreation center in remembrance of her grandmother was recently recognized for going above and beyond her call of duty.

Virginia Washington nominated Patricia McCreary for FOX 4's Pay-It-Forward Award.

McCreary runs Margaret's Place, which sits at 72nd and Troost. According to Washington, McCreary started the center because her grandmother was not able to get the proper care she needed.

"She pours all her time into this," Washington said of McCreary. "All day, long the hours that you put in here the money that I know she puts in here. I know she doesn't take a check home. If you just talk to her, who she is, to know her is to love her. I mean she is just the bomb."

Washington says McCreary would  give anybody her last of anything.
