KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Two people were injured when someone started shooting on the Country Club Plaza Saturday night. The mother of one of the victims spoke to FOX 4.

“It came at the door, knock, knock. My son was like, 'momma, come on. You have to come to the hospital. Marcus has been shot.' I was hysterical, rage, shock,” said Emildre Moore.

Moore said as soon as she heard that her 14-year-old son Marcus was shot on the Plaza Saturday evening, she started to pray.

“Lord, just keep my baby, keep him safe,” Moore said.

Two bullets hit Marcus, one injuring him in the leg and another bullet grazing his arm.

She was told her son was walking along 47th Street with a group of friends. They ran into a larger group. Witnesses told police that talk soon turned into a fight. Officers said one person pulled a handgun and began firing.

“I wasn’t able to hold him and tell him momma loves him because he was in foster care. That’s still my baby,” she said.

Moore said she lost custody of Marcus years ago, but keeps up with him through her other children. She said she’s glad her son is still alive, but hopes those responsible will be caught.

“I want people to stop the violence. You’re hurting babies and kids. We don’t need that,” she said.
