KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The new Grand Avenue Bridge is expected to open in about six-weeks.

The new bridge is being built in the same location as the old bridge, but includes larger sidewalks and bike paths.

The bridge closed in May for emergency repairs when inspectors found several stress fractures.

MoDOT determined the bridge ultimately needed to be replaced.

The nearly $3.5-million project began at the end of August, when crews brought the old bridge down.
