KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Barbecue Society showed off its new home office Monday and hosted a ribbon cutting to do so.

Its home office was located in Grandview, but members say it was time for change and more space. The new office is located at 25th and Madison, next to Boulevard Brewing Company.

KCBS is the world's largest nonprofit organization dedicated to barbecue. In 30 years it's served more than 20,000 members. It also sanctions 450 worldwide-competitions.

Members say they're thrilled with the new home office.

"30-years ago we were just a small group that wanted to drink beer and cook," Carolyn Wells with the Kansas City Barbecue Society said. "Our only thought was that no of it be taken seriously, and to do so was grounds for rejection. Obviously we became a lot more serious."

"There's still things to do, still things to look at and make it great," Bill Capstack with the Kansas City Barbecue Society.

The annual American Royal World Series of Barbecue kicks off Wednesday.
