One dead, one in serious condition following crash at 23rd and Topping

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person is dead following a crash at 23rd and Topping early Friday morning.

Police say the single vehicle crash happened at 12:16 a.m.

Investigation determined that a Ford truck had been northbound on 23rd Street when the driver apparently lost control. The vehicle left the roadway off the west curb, struck a wooden utility pole, a parked car and a large tree. Upon coming to rest, the vehicle caught fire.

Police say the driver, whose identity has not yet been released, died at the scene.  The passenger was taken to an area hospital and is listed as having serious injuries.
