Thaddeus Thompson, 26, is charged in the fatal beating of a man.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jackson County prosecutors filed charges on Friday against a man accused of beating another man to death earlier in the week.

Thaddeus Thompson, 26, was charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with the case.

According to court records, witnesses told police that Thompson was upset and had accused Eddie McCauley, 34, of touching him inappropriately while they slept in a tent on Tuesday night.

Witnesses told prosecutors that on Wednesday, Thompson and McCauley argued and Thompson grabbed a metal pole and struck McCauley in the head. They left him for dead on the sidewalk.

Court documents say Thompson told police that he beat the victim with the metal pipe after he said he “snapped.”

Prosecutors have requested that Thompson’s bond be set at $250,000.
