KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Three people including a toddler were transported to the hospital Friday morning to be treated for injuries following a two-vehicle crash.

According to police the crash happened around 2 a.m., near 39th and Wabash.

Police say the driver of a dark-colored car was speeding and failed to stop at a stop sign when he crashed into a silver SUV. A father and his two-year-old son were in the SUV headed eastbound on 39th Street to pick up the child's mom from work.

According to police, the dad with the help of a good Samaritan left the scene of the crash to take his son to his mother. The child's mother took him to Children's Mercy Hospital. The child has non-life threatening injuries.

The dad returned to the scene and was taken to the hospital with a possible broken nose.  The other driver has non-life threatening injuries.

While speed was a factor, this is still an ongoing investigation.
