Police searching for serial arsonist who set fires at three metro stores

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- KCK firefighters are looking for a serial arsonist, who set fires in three KCK businesses Saturday. They need your help finding a woman who could be connected to the crimes.

“We just heard sirens, police officers.”

Contessa Mouton was working at City Fish near 28th and State Avenue, when she noticed smoke taking over the Save A Lot across the street. She saw customers and employees being evacuated.

“The firefighters come and they opened up the doors and white smoke came out.”

Smoke and flames could be seen at three Kansas City, Kan. businesses Saturday.

Investigators said fires were set at two Save A Lots -- at 28th and State Avenue, and 21st and Metropolitan. The third fire was set at a Happy Foods North at 55th and Leavenworth.

All of the fires happened within three hours.

“Why would they set Save A Lot on fire? Like, what's going on?”

Investigators want to talk to a woman who was recently caught on surveillance tape.

“They need to really find her.”

FOX 4 showed Contessa her photo, she doesn’t remember seeing her yesterday. She and other employees at City Fish hope an arrest is made and that their restaurant isn’t next.

“It does scare some people because it was close by our building. We could be the next target here.”
