KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Friends and family of the little boy accidentally shot and killed over the weekend in the parking lot outside Little Caesars in KCK gathered for a vigil and a balloon release.

The family of one-year-old Antoine Rucker Jr. has a clear message: Lock up the guns. That's the solution that grandmother Cherilyn Thomas told FOX 4's Sean McDowell.

Police said the little boy and his mother were sitting in the car as a man with them was in the pizza place picking up a pie. The one year old somehow got a hold of a gun that was in the car and ended up dead.

Thomas said the best solution is to get the guns away from children.

"Lock up the guns. There have been too many kids in the past week, week and a half that have been hurt due to accidents. We have to be more careful as parents because they depend on us to keep them safe. Lock them up," Thomas said.

The Ad Hoc Group Against Violence was active in organizing the vigil.

No arrests have been made in the case.
