KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A suspect fleeing police in a vehicle sustained serious injuries Saturday after a crash.

Around 8 p.m. Saturday, a Platte County Sheriff's deputy attempted to pull over a vehicle on Interstate 29 near Tiffany Springs Parkway due to traffic violations, and upon learning the vehicle's license plate was registered to a different vehicle.

As the deputy attempted to pull the driver over, the suspect fled. The officer pursued the vehicle, but terminated the chase north of 64th Street.

The suspect vehicle continued on 64th Street until striking another vehicle on 64th Street at I-29.

Sgt. Eric Holland of the Platte County Sheriff's Department said the suspect sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Holland also said witnesses told police two passengers fled the suspect vehicle after the crash. A search is underway for those occupants.

An occupant in the car struck by the suspect vehicle sustained minor injuries.
