KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A standoff near Rockhurst University ended with four people being taken into custody Friday morning.

Around 3:30 a.m., police were called to a duplex near the corner of 51st and Lydia after someone reported hearing shots coming from a duplex.

A Kansas City Police Dispatcher told FOX 4 the residents were being too noisy and while there, someone threw firecrackers out the front window.

Fearing they also heard a gunshot, police backed off and surrounded the house with long guns.

Around 4 a.m., two men in their 20s could be seen walking down the street backwards with their hand up. Police were ordering the men to surrender on a megaphone. The two men eventually let officers inside of the duplex where ten other people were.

Police detained 12 people but then let them go. Rockhurst Public Safety is expected to take over the investigation.
