RIVERSIDE, Mo. -- The Platte Purchase Bridge connecting Kansas City, Kan., to Riverside, Mo., is set to be blown up at 9 a.m., on Friday.

The bridge connects Wyandotte County to Platte County.

The northern portion of the old bridge was demolished last month. They plan to blow up the middle portion on Friday.

The new bridge opened in October, so this old bridge is no longer in use.

Starting at 8 a.m., crews shut down the new 69-Highway Bridge so they could set the charges and blow up the middle portion of the old bridge. They hope to detonate the remainder of the bridge next month.
