Passenger dead after driver rear-ends vehicle, loses control and strikes utility police in KC

KANSAS CITY, Mo. —  One person is dead following a crash in Kansas City near 39th and Benton Thursday night.

Police say a Dodge SUV was heading east on 39th Street when it rear-ended a Chevy SUV that was also headed east. The impact caused the driver of the Dodge to lose control and strike a wooden utility pole.

A passenger in the Dodge died. Their identity has not yet been released. The driver of the Dodge was last listed in serious condition at an area hospital. The driver of the Chevy was also taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and his passenger was not hurt.
