One person shot in KCK; police say suspect in custody

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Police are investigating after a shooting left one person in life-threatening condition Wednesday morning.

Officers responded to a scene near 39th & Eaton near the University of Kansas Health System around 5 a.m. Police Chief Terry Zeigler tweeted arouound 5:30 a.m. that the suspect is in custody.

Now, it appears the victim was shot at another location and left on the curb outside the KU Health System. That person had been shot in the chest three times and is now in surgery with life-threatening injuries.

Investigators discovered the victim had been shot about four blocks away at a duplex in KCK. Police arrested the alleged shooter and questioned witnesses who claim the victim was attempting a break-in when he was shot.

Neighbors told police they heard arguing before the shots were fired.
