Northbound I-435 closes near Bannister Road after shootout; interstate now reopened

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police are investigating after a shooting occurred along Interstate 435 near Bannister Road.

One person was reportedly shot, and another person was injured by broken glass. Police said the neither victim’s injuries are life-threatening.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, but detectives believe a shootout took place between the victims and another person in an unknown vehicle.

KC police spokesperson Darin Snapp said two guns and narcotics were found in the victims’ vehicle.

The investigation closed northbound I-435 for more than an hour, causing a major traffic backup. The interstate reopened around 7:30 p.m.
