KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person has died Monday after a crash that ended in a car engulfed in flames.

Police said the single-vehicle crash happened near 88th Street and Ward Parkway.

The victim was the only person in the car, police say.

A crash report says a Nissan car was traveling northbound in the right lane when it struck a Jeep SUV in the left lane. The Nissan then left the roadway, overturned at least once, and struck a tree. The vehicle then caught fire.

Police identified the victim on Tuesday as 27-year-old Todd M. Edwin. The driver of the SUV was not injured.

Witnesses told police they saw Edwin’s Nissan traveling at extremely high speeds prior to the collision.
