One person killed in crash at I-29 and Barry Road

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person has died after they were struck by a vehicle Friday afternoon.

The crash happened on Interstate 29 at Barry Road around 5:30 p.m.

Southbound I-29 is closed at Barry Road as the investigation continues.

The victim was identified on Saturday as 38-year-old Jorrard M. Davis of Kansas City, Mo.

A crash report stated that emergency personnel were called to the scene of a three-vehicle collision and a pedestrian struck.

A semi was heading south on I-29 with the back door open, causing items to fall onto the highway. Police saw the open door and stopped the driver to help close the door. The driver got out and started walking to the back of the truck. The report said the driver was walking in the #3 active lane of traffic.

Police at that point yelled at him to get back in his truck. Traffic began slowing down as vehicles moved over from #3 to #2 lane of travel.

Another KCPD police cruiser was in the #2 lane slowing down to other traffic, when another semi slammed into the back of the cruiser, pushing it into the #3 lane where it struck Davis and the side of the stopped semi’s trailer, the report said.

Davis was pronounced dead at the scene. The officers in the cruiser involved in the crash had minor injuries.
