KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Two people suffered life-threatening injuries Monday after a shooting inside a Kansas City grocery store.

Police said the shooting happened inside a Sun Fresh Market that just opened in June near 31st Street and Prospect. Officers were sent to the scene just after 5 p.m.

A teenage girl and a man were injured in the shooting, but both are now in stable condition.

KCPD Capt. Lionel Colon said investigators believe this was not a random shooting. He said they think the man was the target of the shooting, and the girl was an innocent bystander.

Colon said there is surveillance video from inside the grocery store that officers are looking at to determine what precisely happened. The store will be closed for the foreseeable future as police investigate.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
