KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A carjacking suspect was shot and injured Sunday morning after attempting to take a Kansas City, Missouri police officer’s gun.
Around 9:15 a.m. officers were called to Redeemer Fellowship near 39th and Walnut in regard to an attempted carjacking. The suspect told the female victim he had a gun and to get out of her vehicle before church security intervened.
Officers located the suspect on foot in the area of 39th and Baltimore.
A witness stated while officer’s were taking the suspect into custody, he fought the officers and attempted to pull an officer’s gun from its holster. The suspect was then shot by an assisting officer.
The suspect was taken to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. No officers were injured.
Detectives are interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance video in both locations.

Security officers with the church ran after the suspect, and police officers eventually showed up to the area of 39th & Baltimore to assist. Investigators say the suspect fought with an officer, tried to reach for a gun, and was shot a single time.
