Father and son killed in Cass County mobile home fire identified

STRASBURG, Mo. — Officials are still investigating the cause of mobile home fire that left two people dead and one person injured late last week.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office said fire crews responded to the house fire just after 4 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, on Shimel Road not far from East 191st Street. in Strasburg, Missouri.

First responders reported that the single wide trailer was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived on scene.

One person managed to make it out of the home and was treated for injuries.

Two other occupants died inside the residence, according to the sheriff’s office. They have been identified as 78-year-old James A. Garret and his son, 50-year-old Dennis W. Garret.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Pleasant Hill Fire Department and the Missouri State Fire Marshalls Office are investigating.
