14-year-old girl in critical condition after being hit by car in Overland Park

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Police say a 14-year-old girl was critically injured after she was hit by a car Friday afternoon near 123rd and Switzer.

Police said the girl was walking home from school on the sidewalk when she was hit by the car from behind. An officer on scene said it appears the driver went off the road and onto the sidewalk a couple times.

Officers said the driver first lost control near 127th and Switzer, and the car came to a stop at 121st and Switzer. The car took out several feet of fencing from nearby homes before it came to a stop.

Overland Park police tells FOX4 the girl was a middle schooler at Blue Valley, but did not provide a specific school.

The driver was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
