Multiple injuries reported in Lawrence sports bar shooting

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Police spent Sunday morning investigating a shooting at a Lawrence sports bar that resulted in multiple injuries.

Investigators say the shooting happened around 2:00am on Sunday at Playerz Sports Bar, near 19th & Haskell.

It was determined that the shooting had occurred in the parking lot of the sports bar, resulting in serious, but non-life threatening injuries to a male and female victim.

A short time after the shooting, police located the suspect vehicle and attempted to stop the car. The suspect fled from police, and eventually stopped near East 23rd Street and O’Connell Road.

When police contacted the suspect, they determined that the suspect was suffering from a serious gunshot wound. The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A portion of East 23rd Street was closed while police investigated the scene, but it has since re-opened.
