KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Tuesday, Oct. 1 signaled the kick off to Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

During the month of October, women are encouraged to take preventative action to guard against breast cancer by conducting self exams and  going to their doctor to have mammograms done.

But what about the many women who will discover that they have cancer?  Thanks to continued research and new breakthroughs, there are many options available to women.

Dr. Jamie Wagner, a breast surgical oncologist with the University of Kansas Hospital and Richard Korentager, the director of the plastic and burn center at the hospital, appeared on Tuesday's FOX 4 Morning Show to discuss these several options, including:

  • Oncoplastic surgery
  • Breast reduction
  • Breast implants
  • Diep flap
  • Prosthetics
