KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Feeling tired or depressed? Gaining weight? Those can be symptoms of thyroid disease. The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland in the neck. More than half of the people who have thyroid disease don't know it. That's because symptoms come on gradually. People may think they're more tired or gaining weight just because they're getting older.
FOX 4 Medical Reporter Meryl Lin McKean talked with Dr. Ahmad Al-Mubaslat of Research Medical Center about symptoms starting with hypothyroidism. That means the gland is not producing enough hormone. Women are five times more likely than men to have hypothyroidism.
