As KC Zoo prepares for Great Pumpkin Smash, Smog the iguana prepares to snack on pumpkins

KANSAS CITY, Mo. --  FOX 4's monthly "Zoo To You" segment is full of fun and facts. Each month a member of the Kansas City Zoo brings an animal by the studio and shares what makes them so unique. On Tuesday, Nov. 1, Randy Wistoff brought an iguana named Smog.

According to Randy, iguanas like to eat pumpkins and fans of the reptile can watch Smog chow down over the weekend of Nov. 5 through 6 as part of the Great Pumpkin Smash.

Upcoming events at the Kansas City Zoo:

Great Pumpkin Smash- It’s post Halloween enrichment for the animals! Watch them crush, kick, bounce and play with big orange pumpkins. From the big apes and big cats to the lemurs and red pandas, the animals are getting into the spirit at the Great Pumpkin Smash on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 5 and  6. From 9:30 a.m., to 3 p.m., both days, visit scheduled pumpkin smashes throughout the day.

Family Science Night- Awesome Astronomy: Bring the family and join the zoo for hands-on science experiments with a Zoo twist. Family Science Night is on Thursday, Nov. 3. Enjoy an evening of ed-zoo-cational activities and mind-bending experiments from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Thanksgiving Weekend at the Zoo: On Friday, Nov. 25, Saturday, Nov. 26 and Sunday, Nov. 27 catch a Penguin March, Santa Diving with Penguins, and a special screening of Ice Age; Collision Course.  Get to Helzberg Penguin Plaza by 11 a.m., sharp to see king and Gentoo penguins up close at the Penguin March!

Santa Dives : Get a one-of-a-kind photo of Santa underwater as penguins torpedo around him. Watch the penguin bubbles trail the man in the red suit. Ice Age: Join the zoo for a complimentary showing of Ice Age: Collision Course on November 25, 26 and 27 at Noon in the lobby auditorium. Seating is limited and first come first served. FOTZ Members Bring A Friend: are also invited to bring a guest for Free on Thanksgiving Weekend.
