In the United States, a person dies by suicide every 15 minutes, claiming more than 36,500 lives each year. It is estimated that an attempt is made every minute. Out of the Darkness hopes to change all that with their suicide prevention walks.

Beckie Mogensen, ambassador, has walked in them every year since 2005 all over the country.  On FOX 4’s Morning Show, she shared the story of her own father who committed suicide.

This year’s Out of the Darkness suicide prevention walk will be in San Fransisco. Most walks are 18-21 miles.

There are also local chapters of “Out of the Darkness” and local community walks. For more information, visit AFSP.org, outofthedarkness.org or theovernight.org or call (913) 620.4136. Email outofdarknesskansascity@gmail.com.
