KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The biggest river race in the region was off and running early Tuesday morning.

The race is 340 miles long and runs from Kansas City to St. Charles.

At 7 a.m., all the solo canoes took off. All other canoes took off at 8 a.m.

Participants have 88-hours to complete the race.  Race director Scott Mansker said some participants will do some sleeping during the hottest part of the day, then paddle during the coolest parts of the day.
