KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- In honor of Groundhog Day, Kansas City Zoo Director Randy Whistoff brought Sonic the hedgehog by the Morning Show. Sonic is a small creature with lots of spikes on his back side to fend off predators.

Sonic will predict the weather at the Kansas City Zoo around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday to decide if the metro should expect an early spring.

The early Romans used to observe "hedgehog day" to predict the weather. When the tradition came to North America, groundhogs were used because they were native to the U.S.
