KANSAS CITY, Mo. — It’s peak harvest season for winemakers across the country, and just like Lucy of “I Love Lucy,” winemakers used to use their feet to stomp grapes and release their juices to begin fermentation. Nowadays, most wineries use wine presses or other modern machinery to crush grapes, but to celebrate the harvest, Mark Alford is learning how to crush grapes the old-fashioned way. Crush Week runs from Mon., October 5 through Sun., October 11.
