KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- One woman has died following a shooting at a Taco Bell Saturday evening near the University of Kansas Medical Center.
The shooting was reported just after 5 p.m. at 39th and Rainbow in Kansas City, Kan.
Police said one woman was shot in the parking lot and ran into the Taco Bell for help. When emergency crews arrived, she was taken across the street to KU Hospital.
KCK Police Chief Terry Zeigler originally reported that the victim had injuries non-life threatening but reported at 7:15 p.m. that the victim has died.
"At this point we are kind of at the beginning stages," KCKPD Officer Zac Blair said. "We have gone from a minor aggravated battery to a homicide. We will recheck everything we did in the original call and we are going to redo it and make sure everything gets done correctly."
The victim has not been identified at this time as police continue to investigate what lead up to the shooting.
Investigators are talking to businesses and gathering video from businesses up and down Rainbow Blvd. to help piece together what happened that led up to and after the shooting.
Police tell FOX4 there is no danger to the public. Police have identified the suspect and are continuing to look for them. Police said the suspect and victim knew each other.
